Marriage: It Can Be Blissful

by Susan Millford Barbara Stoletti Tanya Cooke

Good marriages actually do exist and even though it might not seem it, are growing in numbers. Marriages that are enjoyable and fulfilling are not as elusive as they might seem. Working toward a wonderful relationship between two people that are married is something that more couples should strive for.

There are behaviors which will aid in helping a marriage to become a fulfilling relationship. Against popular opinion, people have great control over how their marriage turns out. Do not be deceived; you can make or break your marriage.

Allowing your spouse to truly see who you are is very healthy. Marriage, a true sharing of each other, is first and foremost about listening, being transparent and communicating from your heart. Several important factors in developing a fulfilling marriage is; being transparent, respecting each other and nurturing and supporting one another.

As a society, we tend to spend a lot of time on our hair, our bodies, etc. and seem to put at the bottom of the list that which is so very important to us; our marriage. In order for your marriage to grow and stay healthy, there needs to be effort and selflessness, which of course can be hard, but when you perceive the rewards of your behavior, it will become much easier. Deciding to get married is a big decision and when that happens, making sure that each person understands that the marriage will turn out exactly in direct correlation to what you put into it.

Marriages, whether people want to admit it or not, go through emotional hurricanes; but if you realize this, you are better prepared for the next phase. Marriages, being a big observer of my own and many around me, go through many stages of development that you can pretty much predict. If a person gets married and they are not aware of what is good and bad behavior in a marriage, then they will not be aware of the stages of development that happen and be able to watch for them.

The stages of a marriage are very interesting and many times confusing all at the same moment, with one of the stages of your relationship being all flowers and symphonies as you wonder how you ever lived without this person in your life. The stages of marriage include good and bad phases and one of them is that you wonder what the heck you were thinking that you even married this person. Marriage and its stages creates so many emotions which includes the stage where you love your spouse yet you dont like his: smelly breath in the morning, the way she takes forever to get ready for an event and the list goes on and on.

When two people are married it is so very vital that you force yourself to remember that you are not opponents, but playing on the same team. When youre married, you must be very cautious that in the middle of a heated discussion you dont say things that you know you are going to be very sorry you said the next day. Every marriage has many valley and mountaintop experiences and you eventually learn that when something comes out of your mouth, many times youre very sorry you said it such as: the day I married you was the worse day of my life, you are a horrible lover, why would I want kids that will end up like you and we all know that list is endless.

If and when you get to the point in your marriage where you really understand that perseverance is the cornerstone of happiness, then you will find yourself in the middle of many truly blissful times in your relationship. Just like everything else that exists in life, marriage is full of many good moments and many bad moments, but your perspective on each and every one of those times is what will help keep you together. Marriage, full of peaks and valleys, can be your best friend or your worse enemy.

by Mae Summerville

Just like a movie star going down the red carpet, when you walk down the aisle on your wedding day all eyes will be looking at you. This will probably be the one time in your life when a whole group of people will be studying every aspect of your appearance. How you did your hair, the choice of your dress, the jewelry you are wearing will combine with the shape that your body to make a complete presentation to your guests. Don’t kid yourself the shape you are in will be noticed. Fortunately you can decide this just as you decide on the things you will wear on that special day. Beginning a fitness regime now will insure you look fantastic when you walk down the aisle. I have some advice on how to get there:

* Get a partner that will help keep you on track. With all the other distractions someone needs to be prodding you to stay on your fitness regime. I would suggest someone very close to you such as your mom who will also be a major figure in your wedding. She will probably be second only to you in the amount of attention people will pay to her on your wedding day.

* Do not rationalize. Trying to work, play, and just maintaining your daily routine is tough as you go through the wedding process. But getting proper diet and exercise need to be as big a priority because it is part of the total package.

* If you have trouble lining up a partner then check out local gyms and try to find a personal trainer. You then have someone whose “job” is to make sure you complete your exercise and diet program.

* Start eating healthy now. You will be married soon and possibly soon after starting a family. The health habits you have now will likely become your spouses health habits as well as your childrens eating habits. You need to eat healthy and it needs to become part of your life now and not after you see how fat your children are becoming.

* Consider a Biometrics program. They are great at providing a set plan of eating and exercise. Get on the web and look for one that meets your needs. Find one that has easy recipes, a plan for you to follow, and even has a shopping list for you.

Remember that your exercise and fitness regime is as important as all your other wedding plans. Also keep in mind as you pull yourself into shape that you will be the star on the red carpet come your wedding day. It is your chance to show everyone how truly spectacular you really look.

How to Look Gorgeous in Your Wedding Dress

by Mae Summerville

Beginning a fitness regime now will insure you look fantastic when you walk down the aisle. I have some advice on how to get there:

* Line up a close friend or relative who will either actively participate in your fitness regime or who can convince you to stay on yours. It needs to be someone you explicitly trust such as your mom. One way to encourage her to help you is pointing out the amount of attention that will also be focused on her at your wedding.

* Do not rationalize. Trying to work, play, and just maintaining your daily routine is tough as you go through the wedding process. But getting proper diet and exercise need to be as big a priority because it is part of the total package.

* Think about joining a gym or getting together with someone to insure that you get your exercise routine in. If you plan to do a three time a week workout then be sure that you have a commitment with someone that you will be there to do your workout. Impress on them how important it is for you to do your exercise routine. You may need to go as far as hiring a personal trainer. These people are paid to see that you show up and do your routine.

* You will soon have a spouse and possibly a family soon after you are married. They will likely take their eating and exercise cues from you. Start now so that good diet and exercise are a normal part of your life and they likely will become your family’s habits. Waiting until you have a overweight spouse and overweight kids is too late.

* Consider a Biometrics program. They are great at providing a set plan of eating and exercise. Get on the web and look for one that meets your needs. Find one that has easy recipes, a plan for you to follow, and even has a shopping list for you.

When you are sweating and tired remember all the people who will be looking at you on your wedding day. This will be a lasting impression that you will leave with people. Not only the things you do but how you look will matter. Again be sure you have your fitness regime laid out as exactly as your do your wedding plans.

When you look back at your wedding photos be able to say to yourself that you never looked better in your life.

Advice on Selecting a Wedding Photographer

by Samuel Jackson

Trying to pick a photographer for your wedding can be challenging, but is an important choice. You want to find a photographer who is able to capture the style and emotion of your wedding day in their photos. To help you find a good photographer while planning you wedding, I have put together five simple tips that will help you find the best wedding photographer in your area.

I would start any photographer hunt by looking online for local wedding photographers. I would start with the major search engines to find their websites directly, but I would also look for local photographer directories. This will allow you to quickly locate the most important wedding photographers in your area. Next, check out their website and examples of their work. This is a good chance to learn a lot about them and their personalities.

Do not depend on a family member or friend who knows a little something about photography and has a nice camera. Picking a friend over a professional photographer is almost always a mistake. A wedding photographer has experience and equipment that an amateur photographer does not. I suggest getting a photographer who has devoted their life to wedding photography full time.

A photographer needs to have chemistry with their subjects. It is important to meet with your photographer and interview them. Most professional wedding photographers will be more than happy to meet with you face to face. Spend some time talking and see if you click. This will help you feel more comfortable with them to shoot your special day.

It really is all about chemistry. Make sure you take the time to interview the photographer you are considering. This is a very common and acceptable practice and if the photographer is not happy to meet with you before hand move on. Your wedding day should be fun and relaxing. If your photographer doesn’t “click” with you it will only create stress. After booking your photographer you should feel confident that they are reliable, trustworthy, and can deliver the photos you expect.

Before you commit, be certain that youre working with a legit wedding photographer. I suggest asking around and getting a feel for the photographers reputation. When you meet with them, ask them about their work experience and ask for client referrals. You want to know a little something about them so you do not get trapped working with a bad photographer.

Valuable Tips to save Money on Your Wedding

by Mae Summerville

After watching the economic news today you may be hesitant about your wedding plans. You need to remember however with just a little creativity you can have your dream wedding at a cost you are comfortable with. Imagination and creativity are two weapons at your disposal that can get what you want at the price you want. I will give you some advice on how to get going:

* Seriously reconsider if you want flower centerpieces. These are gorgeous but also high cost. Something such as a floating candle centerpiece can be done much cheaper and by using a nice container and putting some colored pebbles in the bottom you can have an exquisite centerpiece at a very reasonable cost. Head to the dollar store for great deals on containers.

* Make your own wedding invitations instead of having them printed. There are lots of websites that will enable you to print your own invitations. Again go to your favorite search engine and type in do it yourself wedding invitations. You will be shocked at what a beautiful invitation you can do yourself.

* Create your own minister. Get one of your friends to become a certified minister. There are tons of places on the net that will certify you as a minister for a small fee.

* Look at alternatives to buying an expensive guestbook. Head to a local hobby store and look at similar items that are much less expensive. Even consider a coffee table book.

* Borrow instead of buying or renting. Check with family and friends and see how much of the items you need they already own. Punch bowls, tables, chairs, linens are just a few of the things you may find you can get for free.

* Give away small treats like candy instead of favors. Whether you put them in some sort of tulle bag or just have them in large jars(with scoops and paper cups) by the exit doors. They will make a much lower cost alternative to an expensive favor.

* Check and see how many items you can borrow. A lot of your family and friends have been married and may have bought and kept some of their items. See what they have and do not be afraid to ask if you can borrow it for your wedding.

* Reconsider getting an expensive wedding cake. You know how much of the cake is wasted. Consider a smaller single tier cake or even cupcakes.

* Two costs that can also be reduced are your pictures and wedding video. See if one of your friends will act as your photographer and also one to act as your videographer.

* Look at different venues. State parks are great choices or even a friend who has a large backyard are great low cost alternatives.

* Don’t plan to serve dinner at the reception. Small finger sandwiches and other munchies are very popular with people and are much lower cost than a full sit down meal. Also try mid afternoon for your wedding when people are not that hungry.

Using these tips you should be able to have the wedding you desire at a cost you can afford. Your wedding is a very, very special occasion and so should be looked back upon as a joyful day. Knowing that you were able to put on a great event at a reasonable cost should be very satisfying.

Making Hard Decisions about your Wedding

by Mae Summerville

During your childhood I am certain the topic of your wedding day came up. Not only who you would marry but also all the things you would have at your wedding. I am sure you told everyone the huge ballroom where your reception would be as well as the large cathedral your wedding would be held in. Then you told everyone all the diamond jewelry you would be wearing, along with your designer wedding gown. Something so extravagant you needed attendants to walk behind you. You went on in great detail about the live entertainment you would have. The latest teen sex symbol would serenade you at your wedding and look teary eyed that he had lost you to another man. As you got older and matured the value of money began to burst your bubbles of the large extravagant wedding you deserved to have. I imagine all the parties involved in paying for the wedding ask that you set down and come up with some realistic numbers for the things you wanted included in your wedding. They may have given you a dollar amount and told you to work out a budget on that figure.

Several things influence your perception of what your wedding day should be like. Your friends and also the media. You may have wealthy friends who have had extraordinary weddings or you may have watched the latest movie star throw a multi-million dollar ceremony and lavish reception. On the shows you will see how the wedding planner always berates the couple to stay on budget but in the end figures out some way to get them what they want. No matter how absurd it is they always manage to fit it into the ceremony. From chauffeurs in limos, to custom pieces of furniture especially made for the wedding, they always get what they want.

The only thing you have to be concerned with is the shows are not the reality that you and I live in. You only have a finite amount of money and need to insure you get real value for every cent. That is why you have to really think about what you really must have at the wedding. You need to think carefully about the dress you wear, the decorations you buy, even the food you serve. Then you need to put pencil to paper.

While working up your preliminary budget you will need to make sure you include all the small details of what will be used in the actual wedding. You then need to think about what will be used for your reception. Sit back and imagine the flowers, the tables and what is on them, the entertainment, and even the venue you want to use. After you have carefully listed these items you need to get pricing for each and everyone. Then you can tell if want you want in anyway comes close to what you have to spend. For luxury items I always advise couples to get things that have lasting value such as diamond jewelry.

The national average for a wedding with 200 guests is $27,000.00. One sure way to get maximum value for your money is to look towards a quality wedding more so than a quantity wedding. You can have 400 people at your wedding but are they honestly really worth the extra cost. Remember this day is about you and you need to decide what you really want. Always be willing to compromise and give a little quantity to get a little more quality. Try to determine what added value each additional guests brings to your wedding. You need to make sure this day is as you want it and you are not obligated to invite everyone who ever knew you.

Selecting the Best Cake Topper for your Wedding Cake

by Mae Summerville

While we all know your cake will be spectacular finding the right topper can be as challenging as selecting a great cake design. Toppers became popular back in the fifties and have progressed a long way since then. Many of the early designs were nothing but a plastic bride and plastic groom standing side by side on top of the wedding cake.

Today, most people want something that is memorable, unique, and in no way resembles the toppers used at their parent’s weddings. Modern toppers are expected to have flair, charisma and should reflect the interests of the wedding couple.

In the topper market today you will find some that have a romantic theme to them as well as many that reflect the hobbies or activities that the couple engage in. You are as likely to find a small piece of art on a cake as you will a small cookbook and a small set of skis. Others showcase a style of living. The western look is very popular, not surprisingly, out in the American West. Nothing says cowboy like having a cowboy hat or cowboy boot on top of your cake. Same is true of things like motorcycle helmets, a tiny spool of yarn, or even a small toy gun.

One of the most popular toppers today is the monogram topper. The initials can be made in almost any manner. You will some made of shiny metal or some encrusted with crystals or jewels. The materials that the topper is made from heavily dictate the price of the topper. They can be anything from a few dollars to several thousand.

Be sure that when you are thinking about your topper that you include all the things that you want your guests to know about you and your fiance. If something is very important and dear to you then perhaps you should include a symbol of that in your topper. Be sure though that the topper does not overwhelm the cake as the centerpiece of the cake table. Also be sure that you remember youre getting married and you want to keep the mood of happiness and love uppermost in your guests minds. They are there to see you marry the one you love not get a biography of you and your spouses lives.

Select colors that will blend in well with your cakes decoration and design. Having the goal of a well coordinated cake and topper should be what you have in mind when you purchase both items. They should integrate well and make a spectacular appearance.

You need to carefully select the DJ for your Wedding

by Mae Summerville

While other details for your wedding may be overwhelming you, selecting the right DJ for your reception should rank amongst the most important. You might think anyone can DJ even a small child but remember the DJ will be a major player in entertaining for your guests. We have a few pointers to consider when selecting a DJ:

* Does he have an adequate amount of equipment to insure all guests can hear him and the music. There is nothing worse than having your guests sitting in stone silence.

* Besides musical skills he needs to be able to stand up and speak clearly to your audience. Keep in mind he will periodically need to get up and make announcements. The microphone he uses is as critical as his speaking voice. How long he will be needed as well making sure you and he agree on the music to be played should be done prior to the reception. He cannot read your mind and so needs to be told precisely what time to be set up and ready to go. Be explicit and what you expect and never assume he knows your plans.

* A sure sign of experience would be that he can give you valuable input on what to do to make your reception. A DJ with years of experience knows what works and what does not. You know you have the right guy when he asks about the ages of the people, the type of people they are, and roughly how many people will be in attendance.

* A DJ is no exception to any other vendor in that anything pertaining to compensation should be done prior to the wedding. Full payment prior to the recpetion may only insure he never shows up.

* Ideally drop by a prior engagement and see how they handle everything. Dropping by another reception and seeing first hand how they do things will tell you how good they really are. Remember a DJ is like anyone else. They want the engagement and will tend to tell you what you want to hear. Be sure you and the DJ have a plan in place. Sit down with the DJ prior to the ceremony and you and they go over details such as what he should be doing for the first dance, garter toss, bouquet toss, cake cutting and any other important events that will be taking place during your reception.

* See what sort of music is contained in his catalogue and tell him what you think is appropriate. You need to always consider when choosing that a multitude of people from every age range will likely be at the reception. If he is experienced he will know what works.

Just like the other wedding vendors you have, the DJ is worth screening prior to the wedding so that you can have a magnificent reception. Also remember no one can read your mind. Make certain the DJ you select can deliver what you want.
